Our team has a true passion for the law and we believe that our professional standing gives us a responsibility to give back to our community. We therefore strive to take time out from our practice and family lives to give something back to the community through volunteering and donating our time and support wherever we can.
Currently, we are committed to the following programs:
At Resolve Legal Group, we have a philosophy that Family Law is a unique area of law that often requires a holistic approach to best address the changing needs of a separating family. We appreciate the programs and individual support that the Calgary Counselling Centre provides to our clients and their children. The Calgary Counselling Centre is a charitable organization that offers not only individual counselling to clients but also a whole host of programs such as “Children of Divorce” to assist children with coping through changes within their family, Self Esteem Workshops, Domestic Violence Counselling Programs for both victims of abuse and abusers who want to recover from patterns of abuse, Anger Management, and many more useful and relevant programs. The Calgary Counselling Centre services individuals in our community regardless of gender, race, or religion and they operate on a sliding scale to accommodate all incomes. The Calgary Counselling Centre is also a world renowned leader in research and program development. Resolve Legal Group participates in annual third party fundraising initiatives to support this deserving organization that supports our clients.
At Resolve Legal Group, we have a philosophy that Family Law is a unique area of law that often requires a holistic approach to best address the changing needs of a separating family. We appreciate the programs and community outreach supports that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cochrane provides to our clients and their children. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Cochrane is part of the national not for profit organization of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada which has been dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth and their families for over 100 years! Approximately ½ of the children served through the Boys and Girls Clubs come from single parent homes. The mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada is “…to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.” Resolve Legal Group participates in third party fundraising initiatives to support this deserving organization that in turn supports our clients.
Once a year the Canadian Bar Association puts on a free event to introduce the public to the legal system called “Law Day”. Primarily, the goal of this day is to provide an interactive education about the law and the court process. This event is held at major locations throughout Canada, and in Calgary it is held at the Calgary Court Centre. Lawyers, Judges, Law Enforcement and Court Staff, volunteer their time to put together and participate in this worthwhile event. Entertaining and interactive mock trials are performed throughout the day, there are a variety of booths and exhibits, various other demonstrations and more. There is always something new to see and do for guests of all ages. Both Cyndy and staff have been long term volunteers with Law Day, whether it be chairing the event, writing the scripts for the mock trials, assisting with organising the events or volunteering on the day. Their involvement in Law Day is and has been extremely rewarding to them.
Calgary Legal Guidance provides legal assistance and information to disadvantaged persons who would not otherwise have access to such services. Calgary Legal Guidance assists low-income people who cannot afford a lawyer and don’t qualify for Legal Aid with a wide range of issues such as separation/divorce, custody and access, child support, theft, mischief, fraud, domestic and non-domestic assault, small claims, debt, landlord/tenant, employment issues, protection and restraining orders and more. Resolve Legal Group lawyers are regular volunteers with Calgary Legal Guidance.
The Volunteer Lawyers Service is an organization which endeavours to provide better access to legal services for those who cannot afford it. There any many people in our community who are simply not eligible for Legal Aid and many of those individuals do not have the financial means to access legal advice or assistance. The Volunteer Lawyer Service matches individuals and organizations with lawyers who will volunteer their assistance on a matter. Our lawyers are active volunteers with the Volunteer Lawyers Service.
This is a program established by the University of Calgary Law Faculty. The program offers individuals in the community the opportunity to obtain free legal representation by a law school student who's work is monitored by practicing lawyers who volunteer their time with this program. Cyndy volunteers as mentor to the students and oversees the work students perform on their SLA files. Cyndy describes her involvement in this program as being doubly rewarding because it provides an opportunity to give legal advice to those in need as well as an opportunity to provide mentorship to students who will become part of the legal profession.
Cyndy is the founder and one of several volunteer lawyers within this organization which is currently being developed with the assistance of several other Provincial Stakeholders and Corporate Funders. Cyndy combined her passion for the law and aviation to develop 'Just Air' with the hope of being able to fly lawyers to various rural communities throughout Alberta for the purpose of conducting pro bono legal clinics. Although this program is still a work in progress, Cyndy is hoping to get this program "off the ground" in the summer of 2014.
While we do not accept Legal Aid Files at our office our lawyers do consider and are encouraged to take on pro bono work in exceptional circumstances. Should you feel that your matter is an unusual or unique case or simply would like to make a request for us to assist you on your matter, we would ask that you please provide us with no more than a 2 page summary of your matter also detailing why you are requesting our consideration for a pro bono retainer. Please submit your request for pro bono assistance by using our Contact page. Due to the large number of requests received we advise that we will only respond to cases under consideration.
